Denver Notice for Sales/Use Rate Change 2019
Attention: Important Notice Regarding Denver Sales & Use Taxes
Effective January 1, 2019
The City and County of Denver Sales and Use Tax Standard rate will increase from 3.65% to 4.31%
In the November 6, 2018 election, Denver voters passed four ballot tax increases totaling .66% for an increase in the standard rate to a combined total of 4.31%.
PLEASE NOTE
The only rates that are changing are:
o Standard sales and use tax from 3.65% to 4.31%.
o Combined Retail Marijuana sales tax from 9.15% to 9.81% (The new standard rate of 4.31% plus the special retail marijuana rate of 5.5%).
• This change does not apply to the food and beverage (4%) or short-term car rental (7.25%) sales and use tax special rates.
• This change does not apply to other Denver taxes, such as the lodger’s tax.
• This change does not apply to any State of Colorado sales and use tax rates.
UPDATE CASHIERING AND POINT OF SALE SYSTEMS
To comply with this change, you will need to update your Point of Sale software before January 1st so that you are accurately collecting and remitting the correct sales tax as soon as this change takes effect. As a reminder, retail sales made online to customers located in Denver are also subject to sales tax.
